Purpose of the Role 


 


This role provides delivery responsibility for incoming work from customers, new features for motorsport and product development beyond motorsport.  It reports to the Head of Software Products with a high degree of interaction across the entire Software Products team and with customers 


 


You will work on a variety of challenges to deliver complex products and solutions for our ATLAS (Advanced Telemetry Linked Acquisition System) suite and other related systems.  You will be passionate about technology and eager to use the most effective and applicable technologies, to create robust and scalable software.   


 


You will work on a variety of challenges to deliver complex products and solutions, which ultimately enable race engineers and strategists to access powerful, race-winning insights in F1 and other motorsports series.  


 


Our software combines many capabilities, including data capture, visualisation and modelling of real time and historic data for detailed analysis, reporting, anomaly detection and enabling the best strategic decisions to be made. 


 


Principal Accountabilities 


 



  • Inspiring and Leading  



  • Collaborate with software engineers and testers to ensure project goals are met. Provide guidance and ensure that development practices are followed 



  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and foster a culture of continual improvement with the engineering teams. 



  • Project Excellence 



  • Work with Business Managers, Product Managers, Engineering and Operations to make sure Programmes and Projects are scoped and planned and delivered to meet budget, business case and customer requirements 



  • Ensure the successful execution of the MA’s software development strategy  



  • Ensure quality, scalability, and maintainability of code and software architecture.  



  • Work with Team Leads, identify and address any issues or challenges faced by the team and implement solutions to improve efficiency and productivity.  



  • Organise projects using a structured product development framework, with appropriate project phases and milestones. 



  • Facilitate governance & lead stakeholder management by ensuring regular reviews of progress and facilitating problem resolution across functions 



  • Collaborative Leadership  



  • Coordinate with Team Leads and stakeholders to ensure resources are appropriately allocated to meet delivery timelines.  



  • Work closely with senior managers and business leaders to develop efficient system designs and implement best practices in a supportive and forward-thinking environment 



  • Strategic Influence 



  • Shape the strategic direction of our products and services, balancing emerging technologies with legacy systems  



  • Keep the software development team at the forefront of the latest technologies and methodologies 



  • Customer focus 



  • Engage with customers and partners to gather feedback and ensure our solutions meet market needs and expectations 



  • Communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and clients, providing regular updates on product progress and issues to manage expectations. 


 


Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience 


 


Essential 


 



  • Ideally Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related subject or equivalent technical or business-related subject. 



  • A deep understanding of aligning technology with business objectives, with a focus on continuous improvement and ability to drive architectural and system design discussions and decisions 



  • Demonstrable experience of successfully adopting an agile approach to project development or product improvement. 



  • Strong knowledge of cloud-based microservices architecture, CI/CD practices, and observability 



  • Track-record of end-to-end delivery at pace, excellent prioritisation skills and opts for a metrics delivery approach 



  • Experience in a fast-paced, large functioning engineering team, with a knack for driving improvements to streamline development across multiple development teams 



  • Demonstrable leadership, commercial awareness and with strong business acumen. 



  • Strong customer focus and be comfortable working closely with senior stakeholders at all levels. 


 


 


Desirable 


 



  • Experience in, or enthusiastic, about motorsport  



  • Familiarity with our tech or equivalent technologies: 



  • Time-series database 



  • Message brokers such as Kafka 



  • distributed computing, machine learning, data science 



  • Proficient in using technical task management and planning tools e.g. Azure DevOps and good working knowledge of Microsoft Office systems
