Robotics Teacher

JOB SUMMARY: 

Cathedral of St. Joseph School, a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Academy, seeks an energetic, organized, and enthusiastic teacher of Robotics. Responsibilities include helping to establish a Robotics program from the ground up by teaching introductory courses in Robotics, leading a competitive Robotics extracurricular team, and additional course load in the STEM disciplines according to applicant’s expertise and school needs. (Other courses of interest may be available, depending upon the needs of the school.)

As a teacher of robotics, you will be passionate about mentoring middle school students via hands-on training, class demonstrations, and lecture in the skills needed to successfully design and implement technology solutions to authentic problems. A successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist in determining future equipment purchases and help shape the direction and upkeep of these resources.

PRIMARY RESPONSITIBITIES AND DUTIES: 

• Teach 4 to 5 classes each semester. Classes are based on grade level, meaning that a teacher of the middle school grades would be teaching to students in 6th through 8th grades. All faculty are expected to be able to teach at the Basic, Standard, and Accelerated levels. In addition to the basic concepts of Robotics, possible class assignments could include engineering and design, physics, computer science, digital electronics, civil engineering and architecture. All middle school teachers are expected to prepare students for their high school education, this may include technical education that will better prepare them for a career. 
• Prepare syllabi and daily lesson plans for above. 
• Assess and provide evaluation information back to students in a timely manner according to the school calendar. 
• Communicate with the Special Education Coordinator and the Principal for students in the special services program as mandated by IEPs, 504 plans and SSPs, and as needed for the best outcomes for students in the program. 
• Be available for conferences with parents and educational teams as needed. Provide students with high expectations that meet the standards of the school and require students to attend workshops when they need to make up work or if they need extra assistance. 
• Maintain communication with parents as needed throughout the school year, including student-parent-teacher conferences. Conferences may need to be scheduled in the afternoons or evenings. 
• Maintain classroom decorum to School and Academy standards, including recognizing dress code violations, with the support of the Principal. 
• Serve as the lead coach for the competitive Robotics team during the competition season and working with interested students on enrichment activities in robotics outside of the competition season but within the teacher contract period. 
• Attend assigned meetings for all faculty, department, and committees. Time for faculty, department, and committee meetings is generally allocated at the end of the regular school day. 
• Perform other duties as assigned. 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

• Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills 
• High degree of competence with contemporary educational technologies such as video conferencing, electronic gradebooks, digital whiteboards, and the google education suite 
• Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for robotics events 
• Demonstrated character and ability to serve as a mentor and role model for young people 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

• Bachelor’s’ Degree required; STEM fields preferred, Education Training a plus
• Missouri Teaching License preferred, or willingness to pursue and obtain teaching certificate within five years. 
• Preferred: Strong familiarity with at least one programming language (Java, JavaScript, Python, C++, or ROBOTC) or willing to learn VEXcode V5.
