 Terran Orbital is seeking an experienced Principal Spacecraft Systems Engineer - Cybersecurity to join our growing team.  

 The threat landscape in cyberspace has expanded, requiring proactive safeguarding of space domain systems against cybers attacks and vulnerabilities throughout its lifecycle. 

 In this role, the cyber security engineer will ensure that our space vehicle products remain at the forefront of security and industry standards. This role will implement and maintain robust security measures. This role will work closely with our customers and partners to provide a secure and resilient space domain system.  You will support the architecture of key elements of mission operations, system functional behavior and performance, and detailed design for innovative, high-capability small satellites.  

 We are looking for skilled individuals with competencies in space vehicle design and operations. 

 Duties & Responsibilities include

  • Interdisciplinary and collaborative planning, designing, development, verification, and validation of lifecycle balanced product information systems security solutions. 
  • Lead product (hardware and software) security engineering and be responsible for managing requirements to ensure maturity, feasibility, proper flow-down and traceability, requirements verification, and requirements validation from the mission to the segments, payload, bus, and module level. 
  • Develop verification and validation plans. 
  • Lead the implementation of cybersecurity features on space vehicles and implement RMF and other accreditation processes for embedded computing systems and space domain networking topologies. 
  • Evaluate resilient network operations for space domain systems and implement effective crypto keying techniques. 
  • Evaluate operational needs to define and coordinate security requirements, integrate technical parameters, and assure compatibility of all physical, functional, and program interfaces. 
  • Analyze system of systems and system architectures for optimization 
  • Identify space domain hazards, risks, threats, and vulnerabilities in accordance with standards to assure contract compliance. 
  • Knowledge in secure manufacturing and Anti-tamper designs.  
  • Implement appropriate accreditation and authorization activities per JSIG, DoD and ICD 503 RMF, NISPOM Rule, or DoD Overprint to the NISPOM supplement as required. 
  • Work to adjudicate standards such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, NIST 800-53, NIST-800-171, CNSSI 1253, and ISO 27001 
  • Perform mission, system, and vehicle level trade studies to balance risk, cost, and performance. 
  • Establish standard operating procedures that support mission assurance, risk mitigation, and contingency plans to assure required mission “up time” for all ground activities. 
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define interfaces; integrate mission applications and data storage; and verify Terran Orbital enterprise capabilities 
  • Implement life cycle systems engineering best practices 


Requirements
  • 10 years or more of experience in cyber security engineering 
  • Appropriate DoD 8570 Certification 
  • Demonstrated ability to make complex critical decisions in a timely manner. 
  • Experience leading day-to-day operations on complex programs or large functional organizations, with proven collaboration and coordination skills across internal and external stakeholder organizations. 
  • Experience with risk, issue, and opportunity management 
  • Proven ability to deliver effective communication verbally, written, and through well-crafted presentations across all levels of an organization. 
  • Impeccable attention to detail and sense of urgency 
  • Ability to self-govern with minimal supervision, establish workload priorities, and to utilize efficient time management practices to achieve assigned tasks 
  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 22 CFR §120.15 or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State 

 Additional Differentiators

  • Demonstrated experience in cyber security engineering for space domain products 
  • Demonstrated experience working with cryptography and anti-tamper design knowledge
  • Demonstrated experience in governance and compliance standards.
  • Demonstrated experience and success with technical leadership of launched or operational space domain systems and architectures
  • Demonstrated experience and success with space-based encrypted communications architectures and devices as well as knowledge of standards for geospatial intelligence data and products 
  • Familiarity with Linux platforms

Salary Range: $160,000 - $200,000

Physical Demands  

An employee must meet the physical demands described to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. In performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to sit or stand for long durations of time, in addition to bending, reaching, and walking. This would require the ability to lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. This position is generally sedentary, with substantial computer usage. 

Work Environment  

The job operates in a professional office environment but in a manufacturing company. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and scanners.
