THE POSITION 


The Calgary Flames are seeking a talented and versatile developer to join our growing Analytics team within Hockey Operations. In this role you will help to design, build and maintain software that supports users throughout the organization and impacts areas such as coaching, player evaluation, scouting, and player development. You will also contribute to research initiatives with the objective of increasing our knowledge of the game of hockey.


 


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 



  • Maintenance and optimization of our proprietary hockey operations platform

  • Design and develop new user-friendly tools in our interface, with an equally high standard for accuracy and presentation

  • Collaborate with the Analytics team to stimulate ideas, problem solve, and produce research-based strategy recommendations to stakeholders across Hockey Operations

  • Interact with our management, scouts, coaches and player development staff to incorporate data in decision making


 


THE INDIVIDUAL 


The ideal individual will have the following background:



  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, information systems, or a related field

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience

  • Professional developer with experience designing and building web applications or other software

  • Experience with each step of software development, including requirements, development, testing, implementation, monitoring and iterative improvement

  • Highly proficient with Python or at least one other general purpose programming language

  • Familiarity with comprehensive web-application frameworks (Flask, Django, Pyramid or similar)

  • Experienced with at least one web-based Javascript library (jQuery, React, Angular or similar) and other foundational front-end web technologies (HTML/CSS)

  • Experience with Linux

  • Good understanding of database development and data architecture principles, strong working knowledge of SQL

  • Prior experience working in hockey is a bonus
