Job Summary:
Position: Computer Technology Instructor
Hired by: Associate Head of School
Responsible to: High School Principal
Evaluated by: An annual written evaluation provided by the Secondary School Administration, which includes the High School Principal and the Director of Teaching & Learning.
Type of Position: Contracted, exempt employee paid on a salaried basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach high school technology classes (experience with Scratch and Python preferred).
  • Contribute to the school’s effectiveness by identifying and addressing short-term and long-range educational needs.
  • Set up and modify course outlines and objectives in accordance with curriculum guidelines and school goals.
  • Modify lesson plans based on student diagnostic and assessment data.
  • Convey information through engaging instructional strategies that integrate technology.
  • Assess student learning through testing, assignments, projects, and classroom activities.
  • Maintain student progress by providing feedback, coaching, and monitoring learning results.
  • Maintain records of learning accomplishments, attendance, and behavior.
  • Guide students’ personal and social development by setting classroom expectations and procedures.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and academic information.
  • Stay current by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and engaging in professional learning communities.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Utilize resources efficiently to maximize educational impact.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal.


Requirements:
In addition to experience and a strong educational background, successful candidates demonstrate the following:

  • The ability to teach computer science courses and lead the robotics program.


Essential Functions:

  • Incorporating Biblical Integration into all curriculum areas.
  • Strong understanding of computer applications, Microsoft Office, and VEX Robotics.
  • Designing engaging lessons and implementing differentiated teaching strategies.
  • Building genuine teacher-student relationships.
  • Managing the classroom effectively to optimize learning.
  • Maintaining regular communication with students and parents regarding academic progress.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to ensure vertical alignment within the curricula.
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Mississippi Association of Independent Schools-issued Teacher’s Certification (or equivalent teacher certification).
  • Bachelor’s degree in education and/or relevant subject hours.
  • 2-3 years of teaching experience preferred.


Physical, Environmental, and Mental Requirements:

  • Regularly standing and walking around the classroom, lecturing and monitoring students.
  • Frequent sitting at a computer, requiring repetitive finger motion and manual dexterity.
  • Visual acuity is required to view a computer monitor and prepare and analyze data.
  • Ability to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, even in stressful situations.
  • Primarily an inside classroom environment.
  • Occasional lifting of 5 to 20 pounds.
  • Subject to frequent interruptions and deadlines.
