About the Job:

The Field IT Junior Network Administrator will report to the IT Supervisor and is responsible for maintaining and supporting the network infrastructure at our remote mining camp. You will work closely with the IT team to ensure reliable and secure network operations, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical support to on-site staff. The schedule for this position is 4 days on at the mine site located about 45-miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 3 days off. 


Responsibilities:

  • Install, troubleshoot and maintain all layer 1 network infrastructure including ISP/OSP CAT5/6 twisted pair, and SM/MM Fiber
  • Install, troubleshoot and maintain all layer 2 network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, PTP/PMP microwave equip, and wireless access points.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Install, configure and maintain network hardware and software.
  • Provide technical support to on-site and remote staff for network-related issues for IT and OT networks.
  • Document network configurations, changes, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the IT team to plan and implement network upgrades and improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work safe and promote safe behavior in others.
  • Basic understanding of network protocols, hardware, and software.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Approximately 1-3 years of experience with operation, maintenance and troubleshooting enterprise and OT network software and hardware.
  • Knowledge of servers and networking in cloud, physical and virtual environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently in a remote location.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts collaboratively with a mixed audience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Ability to lift and move 50 lbs., work outside in all kinds of weather, in confined spaces, and at all heights.
  • Ability to safely load and operate vehicles in a variety of conditions including but not limited to; heavy rain, snow, and varying conditions on the surface as well as underground.
  • Preference given to Alaska residents.

Education Requirements: 

  • Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • Desired Certifications: CompTIA NET+, Juniper JNCIA/JNCIS.
