Position Summary
An IBM z/VM Systems Programmer ensures the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of information systems that support core organizational functions and clients. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all operating systems assigned.
Position reports to Manager - z/VM, z/VSE, and Linux on IBM Z
Key Areas of Focus for this Role
- This position is responsible for assisting in the management of the z/VM operating systems across multiple LPARS and multiple clients, including manage z/VM systems:
- Software
- Availability
- Network
- Capacity and performance
- Storage
- Directory and security
- Install/administer z/VM related ISV products (e.g. Broadcom CA VM:Manager)
- System network design, configuration, and day-to-day operation experience required with OSA, TCP/IP, and VSWITCH.
- Provision virtual machines by manipulating VM directory entire manually or using tools such as VM:Secure and DirMaint
- Complete storage management, system backup/restore, tape encryption, disaster recovery planning tasks.
- Support Incident and Change Management processes.
- Provide metrics tracking operational performance and quality of services delivered
- Assist Data Center Operations to ensure SLAs are met
- Coordinate system modifications with IT and business unit managers
- Support multiple annual Disaster Recovery exercises across a diverse set of client environments
- Mentor junior team members with all areas of responsibility
- Participate in Oncall Schedule.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required and/or equivalent work experience.
- 10+ years experience managing z/VM operating systems
- Ability to upgrade and maintain z/VM using VMSES
- Experience with Installation, implementation, and operation of SSI (Single System Image) required
- Experience working in a collaborative multi-client Environment.
- Organizational skills for ongoing, concurrent support of multiple clients is required
- Experience with Broadcom / CA VM:Manager is required.
- Experience with IBM DirMaint and RACF is required
- Off Hours Support as required.
- Platforms: z/VM, z/VSE, Linux on IBM Z
Other Qualifications
- Familiarity with the following tools: ServiceNOW, Configuration Management Database, Inventory asset management, is preferred
- Secondary emphasis is on VM: Secure/RACF administration, performance/capacity tuning & reporting
- Experience with, storage administration and DFSMS/VM desired
- Experience supporting Linux on IBM Z series servers is desired
- Working understand of running z/VSE under z/VM desired
- Knowledge of Velocity Performance Suite (zVPS) is preferred.
