Video Game Development / Animation Instructor

Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.  The instructor will adhere to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the Calhoun Community College Personnel Handbook, the Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the Alabama Community College System policy.

Salary:  Appropriate placement on ACCS salary schedule D: $42,108 – $94,363 (9 months)
An additional summer assignment may be available: $13,001 – $29,184 (3 months)

1. Teach at varied times and places and in varied formats based on student demand; day or evening, on the Alabama Center for the Arts, Decatur, and Huntsville/Research Park Campus or at other sites, including dual enrollment, traditional classroom, hybrid or web format, and distance education.
2. Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.
3. Teach classes in video game development and design, animation, and/or video game programming.
4. Design courses and curriculum, as needed.
5. Maintain a functioning lab and workspace for students.
6. Assist in the development of discipline-specific student learning outcome objectives.
7. Assess student learning using multiple assessment strategies.
8. Analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students for the purpose of improving and expanding student learning.
9. Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to institutional, divisional, departmental, and individual criteria.
10. Collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records including grades, attendance rosters, absences, withdrawal, and/or class drop information to appropriate offices.
11. Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested, including course syllabi, program outlines, and catalog material.
12. Participate in scheduled in-service activities.
13. Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
14. Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work.  Maintain assigned office hours.
15. Maintain or increase competency in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies.
16. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.
17. Perform all duties with professionalism.
18. Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the instructional program.
19. Serve on committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution when appointed or when elected.
20. Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog, Personnel Handbook, and Alabama Community College System Policy Manual; and follow such policies and procedures.
21. Perform other appropriate professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

1. A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with at least twenty-seven (27) semester hours in video game design or development, animation, multimedia, or a closely related field is required. 
2. A minimum of at least 6 years of documented experience in video game design and/or animation is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Animation or Video Game Development from an accredited institution.
3. Documented evidence of proficiency with current educational technologies in the classroom including internet, e-mail, and computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, etc.) is required.

1. Documented experience in video game development and/or animation;
2. Experience using Unity and/or Unreal Engine;
3. Experience using 3D modeling and animation software (Blender, Maya, etc.)
4. Demonstrated expertise in video game development with a strong portfolio showcasing original game projects or contributions to published titles;
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills;
6. Documented evidence in the proficiency of use current educational technologies in the classroom including internet, e-mail, and computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, etc.);
7. Ability to conduct individual and small group instruction;
8. Previous experience using Canvas, Blackboard, or other course management software, from an instructor standpoint;
9. Ability to learn new teaching pedagogy, and new software, as required;
10. An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of the community college system;
11. Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
12. Ability to deal effectively with diverse students, other employees, and the public;
13. Commitment to all students, including those of diverse ages, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds;
14. Successful problem-solving skills;
