Systems Programmer 3 located in Juneau!

This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 23.

What You Will Be Doing:
This position acts as the lead for a full range of work to develop, enhance & support the department’s system. Essentially, this is a full stack developer position for multiple systems for all or part of the life cycle. The systems include Unemployment Insurance (UI) Benefits, UI Tax, Worker’s Compensation, Research & Analysis and more. The focus is on maintaining legacy applications, updating/enhancing when possible & replacing as needed. Languages and key technologies include: VB.NET, ASP.NET, .NET 8, C#, SOAP, MVC, SSRS, ADFS, Azure Dev Ops (TFS) and SSMS.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
This position is stationed at the Department of Labor & Workforce Development Building in Juneau, Alaska. The building is located along the waterfront, next to the Seawalk & Overstreet Park. There is plenty of parking for employees. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other members of the team. Weekly meetings are held to facilitate communications and keep staff up-to-date.

Who We Are Looking For:
  • Information Technology Program Management: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools for the coordinated management of an IT program to include providing oversight of multiple IT projects, integrating dependent schedules and deliverables, and related activities (for example, benefits management, life cycle management, program governance).
  • Computer Languages: Knowledge of computer languages and their applications to enable a system to perform specific functions.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences.

Minimum Qualifications


COMPETENCY DESCRIPTION

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:

  • Configuration Management: Knowledge of the principles and methods for planning or managing the implementation, update, or integration of information systems components.
  • Infrastructure Design: Knowledge of the architecture and typology of software, hardware, and networks, including LANS, WANS, and telecommunications systems, their components and associated protocols and standards, and how they operate and integrate with one another and with associated controlling software.
  • Operating Systems: Knowledge of computer network, desktop, and mainframe operating systems and their applications.
  • Systems Integration: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and procedures for installing, integrating, and optimizing information systems components.
  • Systems Testing and Evaluation: Knowledge of principles, methods, and tools for analyzing and developing systems testing and evaluation procedures and technical characteristics of IT systems, including identifying critical operational issues. 
 
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Training in computer science, information technology, system administration, or a similar field and progressively responsible professional experience in database, network, and/or system analysis and system administration.

CLASSIFICATION STUDY NOTICE
This position is currently undergoing review as a part of the IT Reclass job class study and therefore both the title and the pay range assigned may be subject to change upon the completion of the study.
