Software Development Engineer II

Want to work on a truly mission-critical feature that supports all Expedia brands and lines of business? At Expedia Group’s Typeahead team, we provide predictive text suggestions to aid travelers on their journey to find travel destinations that match their true intent. As the first step to resolving search intent, we’re critical to the shopping experience.

As a Level II Software Development Engineer, you will build and maintain our high-availability, low-latency typeahead services in collaboration with other engineers, and product and program managers. You will help our customers to find and plan their perfect trip. Our platform supports millions of users every year using technologies such as Java, Kotlin, Spring, Elasticsearch, Kafka, Kubernetes and AWS.

What you will do

  • Develop and test standard software applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements
  • Apply software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions
  • Collaborate with team members to co-develop and solve problems
  • Help coordinate stakeholder input and collaboration efforts when developing solutions to issues
  • Apply formal training methods to current workload.  You feel comfortable challenging authority/the status quo
  • Report clearly on current work status.  Ask challenging questions when empowered to do so

Who you are

  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Strength in Java programming language, familiarity with Kotlin is nice to have
  • Experience with supporting a 24x7 Tier-1 operation
  • Experience with Spring, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Kubernetes
  • Familiar with Elasticsearch, Kafka, and Jira
  • Understanding of unit test frameworks, continuous integration/continuous deployment tools (CI/CD), and REST and gRPC protocols
  • Ability to work collaborative with others and independently as an individual contributor

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $112,000.00 to $156,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $179,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience.  Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
