DescriptionBasic Function:
The Senior Systems/Network Administrator has a pivotal role responsible for the comprehensive management, optimization, and security of both system and network infrastructures within Norfolk County's IT (Information Technology) department. This role combines strategic planning, deployment, and operational management to ensure elevated levels of availability, performance, and security of all IT systems and networks. The position also involves mentoring junior team members, coordinating with various IT functions, and ensuring compliance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
Position Description:
- Participate in capacity planning and developing long-term strategic goals for systems and network infrastructure with end-users and department managers.
- Develop and implement policies for network and system asset management, including maintenance of inventory and technical documentation.
- Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration functions to deploy and configure systems and network components that meet organizational objectives.
- Plan and manage the acquisition and deployment of network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, servers, and workstations.
- Conduct research and interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to procure and implement network and system solutions.
- Assist in the management of all operating systems, end-user software, and network infrastructure, including LANs, WANs, and wireless networks.
- Monitor and analyze system and network performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements to meet evolving demands.
- Ensure the integrity, security, and efficient operation of enterprise data and network connections in compliance with privacy, security, and regulatory standards.
- Manage input/output devices, such as printers and scanners, and ensure proper configuration and connectivity.
- Conduct network and security audits, and address hardware and software issues as they arise.
- Assist in, maintenance, and troubleshooting servers, including email, print, and their associated software.
- Develop, document, and maintain policies and procedures for system and network administration, including disaster recovery and training plans.
- Provide support to application development teams throughout project lifecycles.
- Provide technical support to end users
- Available for on-call response as needed
RequirementsKnowledge and Skill:
- Completed 3 year college diploma or university degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Cisco CCNA, or similar would be considered an asset
- Plus a minimum of five (5) years related experience.
Skills and Abilities:
- Extensive technical knowledge of network and system operating environments, including Ethernet, TCP/IP, firewalls, and Active Directory.
- Demonstrated experience with network management and analysis tools, and troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.
- Demonstrated experience in configuring and maintaining network infrastructure components, including routers, switches, hubs, and firewalls.
- Knowledge of data management practices and applicable data privacy laws.
- Experience with troubleshooting end user problems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a customer-focused orientation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a high-pressure environment.
- Self-motivated with a keen attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have the basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
