Provide technical expertise for robotic applications to ensure product quality and continuous improvement to the manufacturing processes. Responsible for troubleshooting robotic systems, performing preventative and predictive maintenance on systems to minimize downtime, while keeping safety as a priority. Provide training and technical support to Production and Skilled Trade Team Members.

1. Ensure that operator safety devices function properly.
2. Responsible to develop innovative automation solutions and technology developments from the initial concept phase through the complete development process.
3. Design and conduct research programs including proof of concepts for automation process validation.
4. Develop and test production test cases for automation projects, including running optimization simulations; collecting data, process reviews; evaluating new technologies and presenting analyses.
5. Execution of technology benchmarking studies in the field of automation.
6. Program complex robotic systems, such as vision systems.
7. To work in a safe, quality minded and productive manner with a sense of urgency to achieve maintenance deadlines and to attain production priorities as scheduled.
8. Perform preventive or corrective maintenance on robotic systems or components.
9. Evaluate the efficiency and reliability of industrial robotic systems, reprogramming or calibrating to achieve maximum quantity and quality.
10. Provide support to assembly operators and plant skill trades about robots’ functionality.
11. Ability to perform electrical diagnosis, recommend repair or repair as needed.
12. Support goal of achieving first time quality and efficiency.
13. Maintain accurate documentation resulting in shared knowledge of issues and lessons learned.
14. Troubleshoot and train others on identifying root causes of equipment failures.
15. Facilitate on-the-job team member training.
16. Oversee all upgrades and programming changes.
17. Ensure that line is built in accordance with all aspects of the latest version of the LMV Automotive Systems build standards.
18. Utilize good working knowledge of all technologies used in the development and build of automated assembly lines.
19. Ensure effective deployment of all available resources.
20. Develop and implement innovative solutions to manufacturing issues related to product development or enhancement.
21. Execute equipment efficiency studies, through time and motion studies, or standard data to ensure effective line balancing.
22. Monitor and maintain good housekeeping.
23. Handle confidential information on a regular basis.
24. Work with production and other departments on basic troubleshooting and corrections for everyday issues.
25. Communicates with Assistant Maintenance Manager and maintenance area/shift leaders and other plant personnel about maintenance concerns, providing complete action plans and status reports as and when required.
26. Complete correspondence, forms and reports using personal computer and required software.
27. Obtain and attend training for professional development and to stay current on maintenance and safety requirements and other training as required.
28. Follows and supports LMV Automotive Systems’ and Magna’s operating principles
29. Supports efforts to achieve department and plant goals on Employee Opinion Survey.
30. Follow all plant safety policies and procedures.
31. Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Has a responsibility to help develop all maintenance apprentices and give guidance where needed.
Qualifications: (These qualifications represent the minimum requirements of the position. Associates will be required to possess the ability and aptitudes to perform the duties proficiently.)
Education and/or Experience:
• Minimum two-year degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in automation process design and development.
• Experience with implementation of vision systems, including advanced 3D vision systems.
• Ability to define & simulate robotic process environments.
• AutoCAD, CAD viewer programs and Robotic Programming.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• In depth knowledge of robotic process technology in terms of hardware and software.
• Knowledge of Manufacturing Process & Assembly methods.
• Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts as appropriate.
• Computer proficiency, Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
• Must have good organizational skills.
• Must exhibit high integrity and honesty.
• Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, blueprints, diagrams, schematics, equipment instructions, requirements, and business correspondences.
• Ability to effectively and appropriately present information and respond to questions from various groups.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Physical Demands
• Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 40 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing, or walking.
• Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades.
• Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical and other environmental hazards.
Environmental Conditions:
• Must be able to work in various locations within and outside the manufacturing plant.
• Must be able to rotate working shifts and weekend overtime to meet department requirements with a minimum amount of supervision.
• Exposed regularly to elements such as temperature and noise.
• Safety precautions to be observed in the maintenance and installation of electronic and mechanical equipment.
• Must be comfortable with working at heights and within confined spaces.
Environmental, Health & Safety:
• Support and comply with all TS16949 & ISO14001 procedures and work instructions.
• Support a safe and healthful work environment that is free of recognized hazards for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
• Cooperate with all local, state, and federal agencies, such as OSHA or the EPA, in the event of an inspection.
• Know and follow all applicable EH&S Policies and Procedures.
