About Us

Over the next couple of decades, our electricity grids will undergo the largest transition since their inception in the late 1800s. Solar is now the cheapest form of electricity, but it’s intermittent. A modern electric vehicle can effectively double the electricity draw of a normal home, completely upending the way utilities plan for, build out, and operate the grid. If left unmanaged, these ‘behind-the-meter’ distributed energy resources (BTM DERs) can cause very real problems upstream.

Rhythmos is developing a Big Data analytics platform to help the industry understand and manage the challenges of BTM DERs. It’s a multidisciplinary pursuit, and we are building a multidisciplinary team that seamlessly blends the world of software and advanced analytics (AI/ML, optimization, grid analytics) with energy and power systems to give the industry the tools they need to pragmatically solve the problems that matter as we decarbonize the grid and electrify transport.

About You:

  • You love and have experiences with startups.
  • You are motivated to work on technology that matters.
  • You are a senior front-end developer with multidisciplinary chops and experience building scalable cloud-based web-applications from the ground up. That means both some back-end experience (e.g. Node or Python) and a solid understanding of UI/UX.
  • You like the idea of winning in the marketplace and then helping build a front-end team around you as the company grows.

About the Job

The Senior Frontend Developer is responsible for the development, maintenance, and advancement of the Rhythmos’ front-end platform. As a contributor in a startup environment, you bring both deep expertise in modern web applications, as well as a pragmatic ‘toolbox’ mentality to solve the problem at hand and move the business forward in incremental and systematic steps. You leverage broad software development skills to effectively bridge the gap between product and customer requirements on the one end with the world of data science, and the back-end framework on the other.

About our Stack

Our frontend is entirely client-side, served via a Node/Nginx host on GCP Kubernetes. We use GitHub both for source control and for CI/CD. On the client side, we currently employ Svelte, Framework7, Vite, Mapbox & Leaflet, Sentry, AG-Grid, and Highcharts.

Responsibilities

You will work with product, data science, and other engineers to develop and deploy end-to-end product functionality in a modern data analytics platform with a focus on front-end. The underlying analytics are computationally intensive and asynchronous, and you will spearhead user-centric efforts to ensure that our customers get just the right amount of information at the right time by delivering a simple and attractive UI that embraces “on-demand complexity” design principles.

You will:

  • Before writing a line of code, work with product managers to rapidly iterate on user journeys and mockups in Miro and Figma. You will drive and own the overall UI design and approval process, which involves aligning stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Own the front-end framework from a development, maintenance, and testing. perspective. This includes evolving the front-end architecture for productization and scale, and working closely with back-end and data science teams to create a joint technology development roadmap.
  • Embrace and champion principles of modern software development as it relates to both modern UI/UX and big data analytics.
  • Write, contribute, and document, embracing pragmatic continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Five years of experience in front-end development on modern cloud-based applications.
  • Solid skills in programming with big data.
  • Experience in the utility, energy, or smart grid space is a plus.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada without company sponsorship.
  • Must be able to travel within the U.S. and Canada  up to 5% of the time
