Apple’s machine learning framework (Core ML) is looking for an exceptional software engineer to expand and support its suite of ML frameworks. In this highly collaborative role, you will be at the center of multiple efforts to make ML an accessible and powerful tool for all developers. We are looking for someone with proven mastery of software development with specific skills in ML. You should have a strong mix of education and practical experience with a real passion for diving in to challenging problems head first.
In this dynamic role you will be working on building highly performant ML frameworks on Apple devices and supporting developer adoption of their capabilities. We’re looking for a highly motivated engineer that is creative, talented, and passionate about great products and fast, iterative development. You should enjoy drilling down into performance optimization, moving up to API design, all the way to creating your own frameworks and providing supporting content to empower developers.

Description

You will develop, maintain and support Apple’s ML frameworks and tools. You will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally with many teams at Apple and impact a number of technologies. You will gain a deep understanding of our Core ML and Create ML frameworks in order to effectively work with both internal and external developers and advise them on best practices for deploy on-device ML solutions on Apple hardware. You will be responsible for staying up to date on the latest applications of machine learning, and for ensuring we are developing the functionality necessary for our developers to take advantage of those advancements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Solid programming skills in at least one of the following programming languages: C, C++, ObjC, Swift, Rust with strong attention to detail
  • System level programming and debugging experience such as efficient file I/O, memory management, and concurrency.
  • Experience building, maintaining, and evolving software libraries
  • Experience with API design and software architecture.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

Key Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with on-device ML frameworks (Core ML, Win ML, ONNX, TF Lite or ExecuTorch)
  • Knowledge of general ML Framework implementation (Jax, PyTorch, or TensorFlow)
  • Experience with MLIR / LLVM compiler technologies
  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
